They were fighting some low-level mentalist villain or something. She remembers it in blurry images that are hazy and indistinct. Clint told her that she couldn't remember anything for at least a day. Kate would honestly prefer it that way.
"That guy must've done a number on you," says Clint as he tries to coax her out of bed so they can go on patrol.
"Can I please just have the night off?" asks Kate as she finally sits up and presses her knees against her chest.
She's trying not to have a panic attack but the memories keep flooding her brain. She can remember what color the leaves in the park were, the stench coming from the man, the way . . . the way she felt so violated and raw and open and unprotected and . . . and . . .
"Somebody hurt you, didn't they?"
Clint says it because he's never been one for tact and he likes to think they have the kind of friendship that's about honesty.
"Yeah and no matter how hard I try, I can never ever forget it," she replies and desperately tries to stop herself from crying.

"It's good to see you," says Tim as he hugs her because to him she will always be a member of his family and deserves no less amount of affection.
"You too," Cass tells him and then looks to Tamara Fox. "I was told you two are engaged."
"Yeah, not really," corrects Tam and Cass can certainly admire her bluntness. "It's a long story. So are you supposed to be our bodyguard while we're in Hong Kong?"
"Yes," answers Cass. "I will not let anything happen to you or Tim."
Tam nods to assure herself and then leads the way out of the building to greet the gaggle of reporters outside. Tim and Cass stay behind and give one another a look that only siblings could understand.
"It's just a smokescreen," says Tim defensively.
"For now," says Cass. "You would like it to be real though."
She smiles at him and then moves to put herself close to Tam to keep an eye on her. Tim smiles too and shakes his head. He's really missed Cass.

Princess Katherine looks across the ballroom and eyes the pair of boys as they enter the ballroom. She feels out of place in such a setting though she carries herself as if she belongs here. In truth, she doesn't. She would be much more at home on the archery range though there is almost no chance that her father would ever let her participate in any kind of real combat. She enjoys archery though, enjoys the precision and skill that it takes to hit a target from a hundred paces away. She's quite good at it too, not that it really means anything to master a skill one can't ever put to its fullest use.
"I was told to bring a gift as thanks for your family's hospitality."
Katherine swears that Thomas's speed is inhuman for he has crossed the ballroom in the small time it's taken her to ruminate on the woes of her life. She looks at him and at the single rose he holds out to her, his token of affection for her. It's almost a miracle that anyone from the House of Maximoff would be allowed into such a gathering. The only reason is that the Maximoff family has powerful connections that Katherine's father wishes to exploit. Katherine has heard that while the Maximoffs may carry themselves with dignity, they're referred to as "gypsy trash" by most of the leaders of the other kingdoms, her father included. She can see it in the make of Thomas's clothes, that the dark green fabric is courser and less elegant than the garments worn by other boys of her age and stature.
"I heard you had quite the reputation for mischief, Thomas," said Katherine as she took the rose from him. "I would have expected something else as your gift."
Katherine is put off guard as Thomas pulls her towards him and sneaks a kiss on her cheek. It's a brazen act and it sets her cheeks ablaze with shock, a little embarrassment, and a healthy dose of an emotion she doesn't want to give voice to just yet.
"Was that more to your liking, Princess?" inquires Thomas, a cocky grin on his face.
"Not as much as this," she retorts and kisses him not only in an effort to not be outdone but also because she thinks she might actually enjoy having the Maximoffs around more.

Date: 2012-09-21 02:04 am (UTC)Nick wonders exactly how his life got so strange. It seems so normal now, sitting at a bar having a few beers with his partner and his . . . other partner. It's the fact that he, Hank, and Monroe are all sitting there talking about their latest encounter with some new wessen that makes things weird. It's comforting though because months ago Nick thought that Hank wouldn't be in on the secret.
"So how is it that you don't drink more?" asks Hank. "I mean with all the stuff we see now, I woulda thought you'd start drinking a long time ago."
"Most of the time I ask myself that question," answers Nick. "Juliette and I used to have some wine sometimes after dinner."
"Excellent choice of that over beer," inserts Monroe, deciding to steer the conversation away from Juliette. "I've always been more of a wine guy. My grandfather loved German beer though. Couldn't get enough of it."
"So was your grandfather a . . .?" Hank pauses because he doesn't understand this new vocabulary and can't keep all the names straight.
"A bootlegger?" jokes Monroe. "No, no, he never made his own stuff if that's what you're asking."
"You know that's not what I'm asking," says Hank.
"Yeah, he was one," confirms Monroe. "It's not like you could ever breed something like that out of your family line. I mean I guess you could try but that's not something any of us are willing to do anytime soon."
While Hank has his horizons expanded on cross-species relationships among wessen, Nick is content to drink his beer and watch whatever is on the bar's TV. It takes his mind off of Juilette, off the fact that the girl he's spent years of his life with now sees him as a total stranger. He's starting to give up hope that things will get better. Nights like this help though.
